T his early baseball is a very recent New York State find , a 1920s Spalding Babe Ruth Home Run Special ball that has the Spalding mark, two color stitching, a pre-printed Babe Ruth autograph on the sweet spot, and is personally signed / inscribed by Babe Ruth as follows. Babe Ruth and "Grandpa" Tyler /. The ball is rough and looks like it was played with after it was signed. Pieces of some of the words as you can see are compromised by the tears in the hide but everything is in dark fountain pen and legible.

Not authenticated but seems to me, after perusing hundreds of Ruth ball images online, to check all the boxes. Even the weak 7 on the date, making it look more like a 1, is similar to other of Ruth's handwritten 7s. And the quote marks around Grandpa resemble the quotes that Ruth would at times put around the name Babe.

Ruth was a celebrity in St Petersburg in the 1920s and was seen mostly at the ballpark or the golf course during Spring training. Needless to say he earned it in year 1927 by hitting 60 home runs as the charismatic leader of the famous Murderer's Row. I haven't found out who Art Tyler is, but (the future) competitive American bobsledder Art Tyler would've been 12 years old in 1927 and grew up in Utica, New York, very close to the spot where this ball was found. An interesting sort of sports association if it could be proven, or if "Grandpa" Tyler could be identified. Please inspect the photos and write with questions.
