Offered here is a unique "one of one" piece that simply cannot be acquired elsewhere. This is organic, true rarity- created by Mickey Mantle's hand and the sheer luck of a well-centered card being handed to him for signing one day.
In the PSA Pop Report, there are presently 5336 unsigned examples of the 1953 Topps #82 Mickey Mantle in PSA slabs. Of course, the unsigned SGC examples increase that number. In stark contrast, there are only 58 signed examples. There are also 4 PSA 8.5s, 10 PSA 9s, and 2 PSA 10s. This means that there are. Yet when we pause to consider how few of those 58 signed copies have truly elite aesthetics, the comparison becomes even more dramatic. Of those 58 signed copies, perhaps a mere handful have strong eye appeal - making those attractive copies much, much rarer than the 95 unsigned PSA 8s. When it comes to signed vintage cards, eye appeal is king. A highly graded card with an unattractive signature is not the ideal. Nor is a card marred by heavy creasing or poor centering with a beautiful autograph. Rather, with signed vintage, the "sweet spot" of aesthetics and desirability is created by the interplay of card and auto. The offered specimen here represents just that ideal state. When compared to all available images of signed'53 Topps Mantles, this card is simply the best-looking- featuring the boldest, biggest, and most perfectly placed Mantle signature one could envision.
